On May 7th, the group of Research Theme 1 (RT1) in Groningen had the pleasure of welcoming prof. Johannes Siegrist, scientific advisory board member and leading expert in work stress research, to the UMCG. The visit brought together both junior and senior members of the Stress in Action RT1 group for a day of stimulating scientific exchange. After a round of introductions over coffee, the first group of PhD candidates presented their latest research, after which they received valuable feedback from prof. Siegrist and other senior researchers, offering an opportunity to engage in a critical exchange of ideas and perspectives.

After a joint lunch break, the afternoon continued with further presentations from in-kind SiA PhD candidates. Prof. Siegrist then held an insightful talk where he addressed challenges within the research field, offering guidance for future progress. He shared highlights and insights about the Effort-Reward Imbalance model, discussed how his theoretical frameworks and findings could inform ongoing work within the Stress in Action consortium, and provided guidance on which attributes are key to establishing a good theory.

The visit concluded with a group discussion, allowing for further exchange of ideas. Overall, prof. Siegrist’s visit was a stimulating and thought-provoking experience that generated new perspectives for future research.
