Research question

“How to better operate the accumulation of daily work stressors and examine its impact on employees’ self-evaluations?”

Abstract

Work stressors (e.g., high demands, interpersonal conflicts, technical issues) can deplete individuals’ resources, harming health and performance (Gucciardi et al., 2021; Semmer et al., 2019). We aim to first focus on the accumulation of daily stressors – distinct negative events and episodes of demands that originate in the workplace (Ong & Leger, 2022; Schmitt & Weigelt, 2023; Smyth et al., 2022). Second, following previous research on stressor–strain associations, we argue that the accumulation of daily stressors over time impairs individuals’ self-evaluations in terms of their belief in their ability to successfully complete daily work tasks (self-efficacy) and their sense of daily self worth (state self-esteem) (Pindek et al., 2020; Semmer et al., 2019).
