Mariëtte Boon is obesity physician and mid-career researcher at the department of Internal Medicine at the Obesity Center CGG in the Erasmus MC. She is an international expert on brown adipose tissue and lipid metabolism in relation to obesity and cardiovascular diseases and obtained her PhD in 2014 (cum laude). Her current research focuses on the role of glucocorticoid receptor sensitivity in development of cardiometabolic diseases and ethnic aspects herein. She received (inter)national prizes and grants for her research, amongst which the prestigious NWO-Veni grant, and the KNAW Young Scientists Award. Together with colleague prof Liesbeth van Rossum she wrote the international bestseller ‘FAT: the secret organ’.
