Els Maeckelberghe is an Associate Professor in Bioethics and Research Ethics, and Confidential Advisor Scientific Integrity at the University Medical Center Groningen. She is an ethicist with a strong profile in philosophy of medical practice (medical humanities) and research ethics. Her research focuses on integrating (implicit) moral knowledge of patients and civil participants with the moral knowledge of health care professionals as expressed in health care practices and guidelines. Current research projects are about technological innovations in preventive healthcare; citizens and the use of AI in healthcare; children’s participation in medical research and agenda setting.
